Imphal, April 23: Informing that script activists are ready to intensify the ongoing agitation from May 1 onwards to protest Govt's apathy to its demand, MEELAL has today reiterated that Chief Minister O Ibobi will be held responsible for all the violence and unwanted incidents that may occur during the course of the agitation.

In a statement, MEELAL Secy Publicity S Jugesor Meetei said that the present turmoil in the State is a result of prolong negligence by the State Govt towards the demand of the mayek activists and further said that agitation would be carried out as long as the Govt fails to yield to the demand.

Stating that the Bengali script has been imposed on the people by the late king Pamheiba after burning puyas about 276 years back, Jugesor opined that the neglect of indigenous script by the people is akin to disrespectful of own parents.

He also said that it is the duty of each and every Meetei to preserve and promote Meetei Mayek in the State.

Castigating the present Govt for not being able to implement the Meetei Mayek script in the State despite having passed a resolution in the State Assembly in 1979 for its implementation, he said that inability of the ruling SPF Govt reflects inherent weakness of the Govt and therefore the time has come for the people to teach the Govt a fitting lesson for failing to fulfill the aspiration of the people.

Even though most of the MEELAL leaders are presently lodged at Sajiwa jail, MEELAL members are never short on confidence and will continue the agitation even at the cost of their own lives, said Jugesor.

Expressing its gratitude to all the organisations and individuals who have given unstinted support to the ongoing agitation, he clarified that MEELAL activist are not connected with any of the underground groups but hastened to add that MEELAL would accept help from any quarters as the agitation is being carried out in the interest of the people.

He also reiterated that MEELAL activists would begin another round of intense agitation from May 1 if the State Govt fails to work an amicable solution within April 30.
