Imphal, January 23 2019:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organization (AMUCO) secretary general Sanjoy Sorokhaibam has strongly condemned the statement made by BJP general secretary Ram Madhav that the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 would be passed in the next budget session of the Rajya Sabha, adding that the statement is like making a mockery of the people of the entire North East who are opposing the Bill.
This was stated to media persons during a sit in protest which was staged against the CAB, at New Checkon today afternoon, under the aegis of AMUCO.
Another sit in protest under the banner of AMUCO, was also staged at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai by the locals of Elangbam Leikai, Longjam Leikai Maning Irom Pukhri Mapal and Apunba Development Committee (KELI) .
Sanjoy stated that AMUCO and the people of the State strongly condemn as well as oppose the statement made by Ram Madhav a few days back.
Ram Madhav, in his statement, has betrayed the people of the entire North East, knowing that the people are against the Bill, he alleged.
AMUCO and the people strongly oppose the CAB and demand immediate withdrawal of the said Bill and to refrain from passing the said Bill in the Rajya Sabha apart from urging the President of the country not to accept the Bill.
He also asked why Chief Minister N Biren has remained silent on the present issue when the Chief Ministers of other neighbouring States are opposing the Bill.
The statement of the Ministry of Home Affairs, shows its double standard towards the people of the NE region.
AMUCO along with the people of the State will never accept such attitude silently, he warned.
He then asked all the political party leaders and all the elected MLAs, MPs to resign from their post.
If the Union Government passes the Bill in the Rajya Sabha against the desire and sentiments of the people of the North East region and the State in particular, then the people might take up extreme steps against the Union Government and its political party, he cautioned.
