WTR demands prompt resumption of Chamu to Kachouphung road construction

Ukhrul, October 22 2024:
The Wung Tangkhul Region, NSCN, Ukhrul has directed the concerned contractors and sub-contractors to resume the construction of Chamu to Kachouphung road via Phungtha and Khayang villages by deploying sufficient machinery and other materials required for road construction.
According to a press statement issued by Sirius Konghar, secretary, WTR, GPRN, Ukhrul, recently a team of WTR, Ukhrul led by CAO W Sayai conducted inspection of the border area as part of a "Reach-Out Mission" to survey the progress of the road construction and condition of the villages from Shirui to Kachouphung.
The inspecting team held an intensive interaction with the villagers and listened to their grievances.
The villagers informed the team that construction of a bailey bridge on the road from Chamu to Kachouphung, road construction from Chamu to Kachouphung and L033-Chamu to Kachouphung under PMGSY have been neglected for a prolonged period.
Besides pathetic road conditions, most of the border villages under Sahamphung Block are yet to be electrified and the villagers continue to live in the dark, the WTR team was informed.
It might be mentioned, RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand and Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah also conducted a joint inspection to take stock of the ground situation and progress in the construction of the PMGSY road from Chamu to Kachouphung in Ukhrul district.
Despite strict instructions, the project that was supposed to be completed within the stipulated time continues to remain incomplete and the extreme border villages continue to reel under deplorable conditions, maintained the WTR, Ukhrul press release.
