New Delhi, September 21: Dr.Thokchom Meinya, Member of Parliament from Manipur today appealed to all Manipuri students in Delhi to join hands without making any differences so that the association could be an ideal and powerful association in the national capital Delhi.

Dr.Meinya was addressing as the Chief Guest at the Annual Freshers' Meet cum Social Gathering of the Manipuri Students Association, Delhi (MSAD) at the Sir Shankar Lal Auditorium, Delhi University Campus here today.

Highlighting the APUNBANA YAIPHARE (Unity is the best), the motto of the Manipuri Students Association, Delhi; he reminded to all the students from Manipur to stick to the motto.

The parliamentarian said, "Manipur is a miniworld where different communities speaking different languages have been living harmoniously since the time immemorial.

We should go together and cannot be separated each other".

He also expressed his happiness when the function was opened with the opening song sung by a group of Zeliangrong community settled in the western part of Manipur.

About 40 freshers who registered themselves with Manipuri Students Association, Delhi paraded on the dais and introduced themselves with their hobbies and aim in life.

It was the most enjoyable event of the function.

One Mani Shankar from Kakching stated that he would like to become a famous Chief Minister of Manipur.

Some desired to become civil service officers or lecturers.

The event was also a very memorable moment when two blind girls namely Nganthoi and Laxmibai who were admitted BA programme in Delhi University introduced themselves among the freshers.

N.Maniswar, General Secretary of Manipuri Students Association, Delhi said that there were about 10,000 Manipuri students in Delhi.

This year around 300 Manipuri students got admission in different institutions/ colleges in Delhi against 400 students in the last year.

The decrease in the trend was due to high cut-off mark this year.

The function was attended by many students of different communities of Manipur and the hall was packed with the students.

Colourful cultural items of different communities of Manipur were the main attraction of the annual event.
