Imphal, December 20 2016:
The State Cabinet has decided to pay compensation of Rs six crore for houses vandalised/destroyed in Churachandpur and Sadar Hills in the course of the public uproar raised against the three Bills passed by the State Assembly for protection of indigenous people of Manipur.
Notably, most of the houses vandalised or destroyed belonged to MLAs, Ministers and an MP.
A Cabinet meeting held today with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair decided to compensate 50 per cent of the amounts that would be required for repairing/re-construction of the houses destroyed or vandalised.
But the compensation amount would be released depending on the financial position of the State Government, informed a source.
