International Museum Day observed

Imphal, May 18 2024: Manipur University Central Museum, Manipur University, Canchipur celebrated International Museum Day on the theme, "Museums for education and Research at its Conference Hall today.

The celebration was graced by Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University; Prof S Jibonkumar Singh, Dean, School of Human & Environmental Science, MU; and Prof Th Purnima Devi, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MU as presidium members.

As part of the celebration, the "Museum Bulletin Vol XIII" jointly edited by Dr Meesala Ramkrishna, Curator i/c, Manipur University Central Museum and Dr Ng Jayshree Devi, Research Associate, Manipur University was also released.

International Museum Day observed

Addressing the gathering, Prof N Lokendra Singh spoke on the importance of Museum at the University level.

He also pointed out the importance of publications of research works and the need to upgrade the Museum Bulletin so that it could be included as one of the UGC recognised Journals.

Prof S Jibonkumar Singh highlighted the importance of observing International Museum Day and elaborated on the role of the museum in the context of NEP.

The event was attended by distinguished invitees, students, research scholars, faculties and non-teaching staff of Manipur University.

Meanwhile, the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Manipur also organised the celebration of International Museum Day cum 19th Anniversary of Manipur Science Centre on the theme, "Museums for education and Research" .

The event held at the auditorium of Manipur Science Centre, Takyel was graced by Chingakham Sachi Devi, Joint Secretary, Science & Technology; Homila Hongrei, Director, Science & Technology; TD Kom, Curator, Manipur Science Centre and Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, Principal, Moirang College as presidium members.

As part of the event, a painting competition was also conducted for students in two categories- Junior Level (Class VI-IX) and Senior Level (Class X-XII) .

About 25 students from different schools participated in the competition.
