Kakching, July 17 2025:
MLA of Kakching AC, Mayanglambam Ramehswar, visited relief camps in Kakching district to assess the condition of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and assured to raise their concerns with the Governor.
During the visit, MLA Rameshwar inspected the Kong-goi Relief camp (presently at KMC), SC and ST Girls' Hostel, Kha Manipur College Relief camp and Senior Citizens' Forum Kakching Old Age Home Relief camp.
He interacted with the IDPs to understand their difficulties and hardships.
Speaking to the media, the MLA stated that although some IDPs had returned to their homes, a large number were still residing in the relief camps.
He said many of those who wish to return remain stranded due to inadequate security arrangements or because their houses were either incomplete or unable to build houses.
He assured that, in consultation with the Deputy Commissioner of Kakching, necessary steps would be taken to address these issues to the Governor to expedite the return process of IDPs by deploying adequate security personnel in the affected areas and to support housing reconstruction efforts.
MLA Rameshwar also highlighted that when any IDP dies in a relief camp, the Government provides monetary assistance of Rs 30,000 to conduct the last rites.
However, he pointed out that many families still face difficulties due to untimely disbursal of the assistance.
He urged the authorities to ensure timely release of such assistance.
