Imphal, August 16 2025:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee celebrated the 79th Independence Day with its president, MLA K Meghachandra hoisting the National tricolour at Congress Bhavan, Imphal yesterday.
CLP leader and ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam and several other members of the party attended the celebration.
The day is celebrated remembering the freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifice for the Nation's independence, MPCC president K Meghachandra said.
It was the unity of the people and their bravery which enabled India to fight the British for her independence, he said.
While the Nation celebrates independence, it is the duty of the people to collectively maintain unity, defend the Constitution and democratic values, Meghachandra said.
"On India's Independence Day, we also remember the bravehearts and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for Manipur's independence," he said.
"It is our duty to restore peace in the State and strive for social justice.
It is our responsibility to walk hand in hand to work toward bringing peace and development, and foster unity," Meghachandra said.
He also encouraged all Congress workers to work with dedication to bring peace in the State.
