Imphal, May 16 2009: Burning issues of the State like the current trend of killing people on daily basis, protest demonstrations of the public against UG groups, influx of migrant workers and lack of unity among the civil societies have been analysed and discussed on the occasion of 7th foundation day of Ethno Heritage Council (HERCOUN).

Held at Khuman Lampak Youth Centre, the foundation day celebration was attended by president of Irabot Foundation, Manipur Th Iboyaima; secretary of Universal Friendship Organsiation (UFO) Y Jayenta and president of Lainingthou Sanamani Thougal Kanglup Menjor as presidium members.

Among those who spoke at the occasion, president of Nupi Samaj K Taruni Devi observed that the people of Manipur have been demanding the Government to scrap Armed Forces Special Powers Act, stop killing of innocent people and protect their lives and properties but the Goverment have remained deaf to the voice of the people.

On the other hand, there is lack of unity and trust among the civil societies.

As a consequence, people are hesitant from following after these civil societies which are purported working for the welfare of the people.

''If Manipur is to be saved, then first of all there should be unity among us and secondly we should launch such agitations that would force the Government to listen to the demands of the people'', Taruni Devi said, while lamenting over the indifferent attitude of the Government to the hunger relay strike being launched over the demand of removal of AFSPA and save the life of Sharmila.

FREINDS president Sapamcha Jadumani said that Manipuri society would become extinct from the face of the earth if no efforts were made to stop killing of people and influx of migrant workers.

General secretary of Kangleichal Tamphatombi recalled that there was a time when Manipuri women could accomplish anything with their collective will and effort.

But it is not so any more and this is very unfortunate, he said, adding that women leaders in the society today should ponder over this.

Momnu Erikkhombi Lup president AK Janaki said no mother would be able to see their children being killed in front of their own eyes when they started expecting to enjoy the fruit of their.

If these children were to be killed when their grow up then what is the point of taking up immunisation progamme and administering of polio drops, she questioned.

The newly elected office-bearers of HERICOUN for the term 2009-12 were also introduced one by one at the occasion.
