One hostage released

Senapati, May 14 2026: As a goodwill gesture and on humanitarian grounds, the Naga Village Guard Northern Command on Thursday evening released a teenage Kuki girl and also handed over a substance abuser to the Senapati police for treatment.

The girl, identified as Hatneimoi Lupheng (18) of Songoehzang, Saikul Village, was handed over to the Senapati women police.

Briefing the media at the site, a volunteer stated that the Kuki girl was released due to her age and gender, and following a request from the civil society organisations (CSOs) of Senapati.

Similarly, a Meitei individual was reportedly handed over to the district police last evening after verification of his identity.

A substance abuser was also taken to the district hospital for treatment.

It is reported that the district CSOs are coordinating with law enforcement agencies to secure the release of the remaining hostages in the district.
