Thoubal, September 13 2024:
The United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC) Manipur staged a sit-in protest today at Lilong Keithel demanding restoration of peace in Manipur.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Raees Ahamed Tampak, general secretary, UMPC Manipur condemned the double-engine Government for failing to resolve the conflict.
Instead of a reduction in violence and improvement in the state of affairs, there is an uptick in deaths, injuries, destruction of property and increased hostility between different communities, he maintained.
Additionally, he firmly stated that the Meitei Pangal community will not accept any compromise on the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Highlighting the impact of the conflict on the economy, education sector etc, the United Meitei Pangal Committee general secretary said that it is the duty of the Indian and State Government to end the Manipur crisis.
If the conflict continues to fester, the situation could get even worse and turn the State into a site of chaos, Raees Ahamed Tampak added.
The protestors shouted slogans such as "Long live Manipur", "No compromise on Manipur's integrity", "Restore peace in the State" and "Save the lives of indigenous people" among others.
