Imphal, July 12 2022: Parents and guardians of students seeking admission at TG Higher Secondary School camped overnight in front of the school to get admission under the direct admission scheme.

The parents and guardians had gathered in front of the school since last night following a notification from the school that students who secured more than 75 percent (90 percent for CBSE) in the recently announced HSLC examination will be given direct admission to Class XI .

Parents and guardians from different places including Thoubal, Lamlai and Nambol who came on reserved vehicles spent the night at Keishampat with police dispersing the overcrowding in front of the school.

Police personnel were also posted in huge numbers to prevent any untoward incident since last night.

The number of people increased manifold in the morning and the police intervened to keep the crowd under control and in queue.

Parents and guardians were finally allowed to enter the school at 8 am.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, a teacher of TG Higher Secondary School said the school had notified earlier that 50 percent of students to be admitted to Science, Arts and Commerce streams in Class XI were to be selected through entrance test while the remaining 50 percent were to be reserved for students who secured above 75 percent marks for BOSEM and 90 percent marks in CBSE examinations.

The direct admission process started on July 11 and will continue till July 13 while the forms for the entrance test will be provided till July 15 with entrance test scheduled for July 20 .

Meanwhile, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has appealed the schools to issue application forms for admission to Class XI in both online and offline modes to prevent overcrowding in view of the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.

MSF said this in a statement issued today and added that more than 95 percent of the people who camped in front of the TG Higher Secondary School yesterday were not wearing any mask and Covid SOPs were also not followed.
