Imphal, November 11 2025:
The All India Trade Union-Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee has urged the State Government to cancel all preparations to conduct the Sangai Festival slated from November 21 to 30 .
Terming the Government's plans as inappropriate and unreasonable, a press release issued by AITUC/MSC has asserted that it would be more productive if the crores of rupees funding the festival was instead used for the welfare of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) .
It pointed out that free movement is still restricted in the National Highways and people from the Meitei community cannot travel to many hill districts.
It said the Government should be empathetic to the suffering of the IDPs who continue to live in relief camps facing various hardships unable to return to their original homes.
On another note, AITUC/MSC asserted that the Government is unable to distribute the daily allowance entitled to the IDPs or grant compensation to all who lost their lives and properties in the conflict even as they continue to make preparations for the Sangai Festival.
"Sangai Festival can be organised many times but can those who died in the conflict have their lives returned? The whereabouts of many individuals lost in the midst of the conflict continue to remain untraceable.
The Government should also know that many persons who were wounded during the crisis are living miserable lives", said AITUC/MSC .
The public is not interested in mud-slinging over the installation of a popular Government.
They want the creation of a peaceful Manipur, justice and appropriate punishment for perpetrators.
Be it the Centre, the State Government, popular Government or PR, they have all failed in Manipur, asserted the All India Trade Union Congress, MSC .
