CorCom shares thoughts on 73rd Intl Human Rights Day-I
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, December 09 2021: The Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of 73rd International Human Rights Day which falls on December 10.A press release issued by M Sak-hen, media coordinator, said that the theme of this year's observance is "All Human , All Equal" .

The CorCom urged the people of Manipur to take a concrete resolution to liberate themselves from the 'oppressive rule of India.

Claiming that Kangleipak which used to be an independent and sovereign kingdom in WESEA region was forcibly annexed by India in 1949, CorCom further claimed that this alleged occupation violated the Article 1 of United Nations Declaration on Human Rights (UNDHR) or Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), 1948 .

The people of Manipur, however, are not enjoying the dignity and rights guaranteed by the Article 1 of UNDHR, the committee claimed and accused India of attempting to balkanize Manipur through different policies.

Asserting that the people of Manipur, fortunately, didn't fall prey to such an attempt and are upholding the unity of Kangleipak, the statement expressed hope that the theme of this year observance of International Human Rights Day will bolster 'the struggle for our right to self determination' .

Continuing that the United Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) adopted the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goal to ensure equality of all and address discrimination, the CorCom claimed that India, however, is attempting to abolish the people in WESEA by sending a large number of non locals in the region.

India, which is a signatory of UNDRIP, also doesn't respect the term "Indigenous" which is mentioned in its own Constitution, the outfit claimed.

Claiming that India is also depicting the freedom struggle of Kangleipak in a bad light, the CorCom contended that the United Nations Charter and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) 1966 'recognised Right of Self Determination as a right of all people'.

"As per Article 1 of ICCPR, all people have the right of self determination," it claimed and alleged that the rectification of this provision of ICCPR was accepted on April 10, 1979.As a signatory of the UN Charter, India should respect the provision which guarantees the right of self determination, CorCom said.

Claiming that India is classifying the right of self determination into two viz internal and external to depict the issue of Manipur as an internal law and order problem, CorCom claimed that over 1528 'innocent' people have been killed in fake encounters by the security forces.

Claiming that the India had in its Universal Periodic Review report submitted to the United Nations in 2017 mentioned that the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act 1985 are being imposed only in certain States including Manipur, CorCom alleged that imposition of AFSPA since 1958 confirmed that the India is exercising martial law in Manipur and WESEA region.

The people of the WESEA region are deprived of basic fundamental rights, it claimed.
