RAF personnel injured in grenade attack

Imphal, October 09 2026:
A Head Constable of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) sustained serious injuries in a hand grenade attack near the gate of an RAF outpost at New Checkon Chingnang Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district last night.
The incident occurred around 9.10 pm yesterday when an unidentified person allegedly hurled a hand grenade towards the B/107 RAF outpost.
The grenade exploded near the gate, injuring a Head Constable posted at the outpost.
The injured personnel has been identified as Dhananjay Rai (40), from Uttar Pradesh.
He sustained injuries to his abdomen and was initially rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, for treatment.
As his condition deteriorated during treatment, he was shifted to Shija Hospital last night for further medical care.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is stated to be in serious condition.
Soon after the incident, a team of Imphal East district police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
Security measures have also been intensified in the surrounding area.
Early this morning, a joint team of Central security forces and Imphal East police, including women police personnel, conducted a cordon-and-search operation in the New Checkon area.
As of now, no arrests or recoveries of arms and ammunition have been reported in connection with the incident.
