Imphal, October 09 2025:
World Mental Health Day was celebrated today at Centre for Mental Hygiene, Changangei Uchekon, Imphal under the theme, "Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies" .
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr RK Lenin, former Head, Psychiatry Department, RIMS, Imphal; Chabungbam Premjit Singh, project coordinator.
New Life Imphal; Jiteshore Keisham, Joint Director, Social Welfare Department, Manipur; and Npngpoknganba Ningthoujam, project coordinator, Centre for Mental Hygiene.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr RK Lenin said that World Mental Health Day is observed annually to raise awareness about mental health issues, encourage open conversations, and promote mental well-being.
He stated that the Day aims to break the stigma surrounding mental illness, highlight the importance of accessible mental health care, and foster supportive environments to help people with mental health challenges.
He pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent ethnic conflict in Manipur have severely worsened the State's mental health, creating a dual trauma.
He continued that the compounding crises have subjected the population to overlapping periods of isolation, uncertainty, displacement, and violence, leading to a critical mental health emergency.
"The Tele-MANAS project, launched in October 2022, has become a crucial lifeline for millions seeking mental health support", said Dr RK Lenin while encouraging individuals with mental health issues to call the toll-free helpline number "14416" and access the help they need.
