Imphal, October 08 2026:
The Teachers' Association of JN Institute of Medical Sciences (TA-JNIMS) has welcomed the appointment of Prof Supriya Laifangbam as the new Director of JNIMS .
In a press note, TA-JNIMS congratulated Prof Laifangbam and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Commissioner (Health & Family Welfare) for the appointment.
The association said the decision fulfilled its longstanding demand for leadership from within the institute.
TA-JNIMS assured the new Director of its "full and constructive cooperation" and said it would work with the new administration and the Government to bring visible improvements at JNIMS.
At the same time, the Association urged the Government and the new administration to address "deep and interlinked problems" at the institute on a war footing.
Among its demands are completion of the absorption of all JNIMS employees, resolution of the NPS issue and implementation of time-scale promotion.
It also called for filling vacant posts of faculty, residents, nurses, paramedical, technical and support staff through regular, time-bound recruitment.
The Association further sought urgent repair and upgradation of hospital buildings, wards, operation theatres, intensive care units and emergency services, along with reliable power, water, medical gas supply, sanitation and fire safety.
It also called for procurement and replacement of essential diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, improvement of academic and research facilities, and implementation of a campus master plan covering hostels, staff quarters, roads, drainage, lighting and security.
TA-JNIMS said the issues had already been detailed in its First White Paper submitted on August 12, 2026, and in subsequent representations, and stressed that they should not be allowed to "drift any longer" .
The association said developing JNIMS into a centre of excellence in the North East and the country remains an achievable goal, provided adequate administrative support is extended to the institute.
It also maintained that cooperation with the new administration would not mean silence on issues affecting patients, public health or medical education.
TA-JNIMS expressed confidence that the appointment of Prof Supriya would open a productive new chapter in the development of JNIMS .
