Imphal, February 08:
Consequent upon the alleged indifference of the State Government and the authority concerned towards their various demands since a long time back, the LMS Law College Students' Union has sealed the administrative block of the College indefinitely.
Speaking to reporters today, vice-president of the Union K Birchandra decried that against the norms prescribed by the Bar Council of India for 19 teaching staff in the College, only six regular teachers including the Principal in-charge and four guest lecturers are manning the College.
As a result of the acute shortage in the teaching staff, the students have been facing the inconvenience of irregular and lesser classes for a long time, he rued.
In addition to lack of necessary books in the College library, the students have no access to internet facility.
Even as Rs 2 crores have been released already out of Rs 4 crores sanctioned for development of the College infrastructure, there is no sign of any development work taking up in the College campus till date, lamented Birchandra.
In response to repeated memoranda submitted to the authority concerned including the relevant Minister urging for appointment of adequate teaching staff, installation of internet facility in the College library and development of the College infrastructure, the Education Minister had also assured to fulfil the demands within a short period.
But the failure of the authority take up any concrete action in this regard has compelled the students to lock the administrative block, asserted the vice-president.
