Imphal, July 07 2024:
AICC Manipur in-charge Girish Chodankar today visited the family of Angom Premkumar who was found hung to death last night.
Another team of Congress leaders including Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, MP Dr Bimol Akoijam, MLA Th Lokeshwar and ex-Minister N Loken too visited the bereaved family.
Angom Premkumar, a resident of Tuibong Forest Gate, Churachandpur was staying in the relief camp opened at Kwakta Sericulture farm after their house was burnt down by armed Kukis.
A team of Congress leaders led by AICC Manipur in-charge Girish Chodankar and MPCC working president Victor Keishing visited the family of Angom Premkumar at the relief camp.
Apart from expressing solidarity to the bereaved family, the Congress team also extended monetary aid to the family.
The team also talked with other IDPs staying there on their plight and suffering.
The Congress team further appealed to the Government to work for a solution to the 14-months old violent crisis and restore peace and normalcy in the State.
Talking with the second team of Congress leaders, the bereaved family said that they first took refuge in the relief camp opened at Moirang College.
They shifted to Kwakta Sericulture farm after the Government constructed prefabricated houses there.
The bereaved family said that all their properties and valuables were completely destroyed when their house at Churachandpur was burnt down by Chin-Kuki terrorists.
"Since then we have been suffering untold misery in the relief camp.
Recently, his wife became sick and his son's hand got fractured but Premkumar had no money for their treatment.
As a result, Premkumar was facing a huge financial and psychological burden.
He might have committed suicide due to extreme depression", said the family.
If it is true that Premkumar committed suicide because of poverty, inability to treat his wife and son and the resulting depression, it is really unfortunate, K Ranjit said.
The second Congress team also extended financial assistance to the bereaved family.
