State Forest Department today observed 59th Van Mahaotsav-2008 with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi as chief guest and Forest and Environment Minister Th Debendra as president at Kangla Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, O Ibobi emphasised on the need of planting of saplings with felling down of every tree.
Maintaining that protection of forest would enhance the economy of the State, Ibobi also expressed his desire to organise awareness campaign on the importance of forests in both hill and valley.
Forest Minister Th Debendra reminded the possible effects of cutting down of forests during his speech.
He also emphasised on the need of forestation for the welfare of the people of the State.
Chief Guest and president also distributed prizes to the prize winners of the spot essay writing competition organised in connection with the observance of the day.
Saplings were also planted around Kangla in connection with the observance.
