PIL filed on Tronglaobi firing

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been instituted before the High Court of Manipur, seeking judicial intervention into the tragic incident that occurred at Tronglaobi on April 7 .
A press release issued by Advocate Meihoubam Rakesh stated that the petition was filed by Irengbam Jugeshwar, a member of Citizens for Justice, through a team of advocates led by him and Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani.
The PIL pertains to the deaths of three civilians and injuries sustained by several others, allegedly caused by firing by CRPF personnel during a protest that erupted following a bomb explosion at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, which claimed the lives of two minor children and grievously injured their mother.
The petition seeks, among others, the constitution of an independent judicial inquiry headed by a retired High Court Judge, the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), the registration of criminal cases against the personnel responsible for the firing, compensation for the victims and their families, and the preservation and production of all relevant records connected with the incident.
The matter was listed before the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M Sundar and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma yesterday.
The press release continued that the High Court has issued notices to the respondents, which were accepted on behalf of the Union of India, the CRPF, and the State of Manipur.
The respondents have been granted time to file their affidavits, and the matter has been listed for further consideration on May 8 .
