Manipur condemns terrorist attack as one

The killing of two children, a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl, in a bomb attack in Bishnupur's Tronglaobi in the wee hours today has shaken the collective conscience of the public.
Condemning the barbaric criminal attack by Kuki militants, many organisations have now mounted pressure on the Government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The minor siblings and their mother were sleeping on their bed when a projectile that tore through the window exploded inside the room injuring them grievously.
Hit by splinters, the children, 5-year-old Oinam Tomthin and 5-month-old Yaisana succumbed to their injuries but the mother Binita, survived.
The weaning ceremony of the 5-month-old baby girl was to be held tomorrow (April 8) .
The children's father, Oinam Mangal Ngamba (35), a Border Security Force's personnel, was on duty outside the State.
The shocking incident opened old wounds of the abduction and cold blooded murder of six persons including three women and three children--Telem Tha-jamanbi (8 years), Laishram Chingkhei Nganba (2.5 years) and Laishram Lamnganba (8-month)--in Jiribam by Kuki militants on November 11, 2024 .
Frustrated and angry, people quickly thronged the streets today and enforced bandh, and stormed a CRPF camp in Tronglaobi area, which resulted in many casualties in the security forces' firing.
Many organisations, representing different commu- nities, were quick to condemn the heinous "terrorist" attack, and demand "justice" and "accountability" from the Government.
In a joint statement, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) said they vehemently condemn the "terrorist attack" that killed two children and subsequently caused by security forces' firing at protesters.
The attack occurred despite the presence of Central security forces in the area, said the organisations, accusing the Government of India of being a complicity in acts of terrorism.
While Delhi claims peace has returned to Manipur, the killing of innocent civilians and children have not stopped in the State.
The incident today highlights a complete failure of the Government and the Central security forces, said the organisations.
The people of Manipur have suffered enough.
The Government of India must be taught a lesson.
It must immediately take up concrete steps to identify the perpetrators and punish them, added the organisations.
The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) called the incident a failure of the security forces deployed in the area, and accused the Government of India and the Central security forces of "supporting" SoO Kuki militants.
The Naga Peoples' Union, Imphal condemned the heinous attack, and expressed its solidarity with the bereaved family.
The people of Manipur have suffered enough, and it's time for the Governments, both the Centre and the State, to take a firm decisive action to address the root cause of the conflict, it said.
Sinakeithei, Thoyee, Sarkhaphung, Konsakhul, Wakhong Uinpui, Ereng village have also been attacked, it added, urging the Government for appropriate actions.
The World Meetei Council (WMC) condemned the incident and said the Government must revoke the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact signed with Kuki militant organisations.
It said Government's security and intelligence agencies must identify, dismantle, and neutralise all Kuki "terrorists" and narco-terror networks operating in the region.
The Kangleikpak Kanba Lup accused the Government of India of remaining a mute spectator to incidents of attacks on civilians, and said it should bring about a permanent solution to the crisis.
In the wake of the incident today, the association said it has postponed its 8th foundation day function, scheduled for tomorrow.
The Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Kangleipak said the State Government, its Ministers and MLAs must bear the responsibility of the incident today and make known their stand on the issue to the public at earliest.
It sought decisive actions against "Kuki narco-terrorists" for the heinous attack.
Condemning the attack, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) president Bruce Pebam called for a "non-cooperation" movement against Central security forces.
There must be joint military operations against Kuki militants to bring the perpetrators to justice, he added.
The All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
It said brutal incidents such as the attack today hinder ongoing peace process and efforts to restore normalcy in the State.
It said the State must take swift legal actions without delay and strengthen security in vulnerable and sensitive areas.
The Socialist Students' Union of Manipur condemned the incident in the strongest terms and called on the Government to launch a thorough, transparent and time-bound investigation, identify and apprehend the perpetrators and award strict exemplary punishment "so that justice is not denied" .
The All Manipur Bar Association, Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), Haomee Youth Front, Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation, Minorities Students' Association, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Manipur, Salai Kanba Lup (CC), United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), All Manipur Nupi Marup, The Meitei Society Churachandpur, Manipurgi Ngamkhei Kanba Lup, Konthoujam Local Council Communist Party of India, Good Governance Party and many others too condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
