Last phase Census to cover security forces

Imphal, January 07 2011: As a part of the ongoing country-wide census exercise, the last phase of the census data collection for Manipur will be carried out next month.

The last phase would cover army, para military forces, police and road side dwellers as well as mentally unsound persons.

As part of the decadal census exercise, necessary data for house listing and compilation of national population register were collected last year.

Head counts for the census exercise would be carried out from February 9 to 29, conveyed a source.

In addition to the civil population, the second and last round of the census exercise would cover army and para military forces deployed in the State as well as police.

For army, para military and police personnel, they should furnish their data to the census office.

Around 7000 to 8000 State Govt employees would be employed for the last round of census exercise.

The Census Operation Director has already given requisite training to the enumerators for the census data collection work.

The enumerators have been instructed to stay one night on roads to make head count of the number of road side dwellers.

They would also make a record of the number of mentally unsound persons.

A revision round would be conducted from March 1 to 5 for those left out of the last round, if there is any.

Altogether 23 different items related to personal data would be collected during the head count.

Moreover, exact names of ST/SC categories would also be collected.

Even as the State Government is yet to resolve the issue about overlapping of 122 villages in two or more districts, head counts and necessary data collection would be conducted in these villages too.

Meanwhile, it is reported that collection of photographs, scanned images of iris and finger prints would be initiated soon in continuation of the data collection work carried out last year for compilation of national population register.
