Sit-in demands NRC before census

Imphal, October 06 2026:
A sit-in protest was staged today at Waikhong in Kakching today, demanding updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) before census.
The protest demonstration organised was under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), Committee on Human Right (COHR) and Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) .
AMUCO president S Sanjoy appealed to the people of Manipur to collectively face the challenges confronting the State.
He also called for developing a work culture to make Manipur self-reliant in food production.
AMUCO secretary (organisation) Laishram Krishnachandra said the Government has failed to resolve the crisis that has been plaguing Manipur since May 3, 2023 "as incidents of arson, killing and other forms of violence continue unabated" .
Accusing the Government of India (GoI) of allegedly playing the communal card to create divisions among the people and promote ethnic polarisation, besides facilitating invasion of illegal immigrants into the State, he alleged that the GoI has been implementing policies to wipe out Manipur.
He called for unity among the Manipuri people to safeguard the State.
The sit-in protest was participated by members of Kakching District United Clubs Organisation (KADUCO), Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup 2 (KHUKAMPAL-2) and residents of Waikhong and surrounding areas.
