Imphal, August 06 2026:
Employees staged a sit-in protest demonstration today urging the State Government to revoke an order appointing an MCS officer as Joint Director of the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) .
The protest demonstration at the directorate's office at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex was organised by the YAS Employees Association.
During the sit-in, the association's secretary, Davis Kangjam said the order which appointed an MCS officer as the Joint Director was issued on July 27 by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Per-sonnel Division).
Davis alleged the appointment was made against the rules.
By the department's recruitment rules, the Joint Director should be held by an internal cadre on promotion.
The appointment of the MSC officer has deprived eligible staff of the opportunity and demoralised them, Davis said.
He further asserted that the YAS Department has as many as 418 vacancies against 725 sanctioned posts.
The employees' association may intensify protest if the Government fails to revoke the July 27 order, Davis added.
