Imphal, July 06 2026:
Volunteers of Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) stormed the office of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BoSEM) at Babupara today, demanding the inclusion of a curriculum and syllabus on drug use prevention for students from Classes V to XII .
The protesters raised slogans at the gate of BoSEM, asserting that drug abuse remains an issue of concern in Manipur.
They stressed that educating students about the dangers of substance abuse is essential to addressing the problem.
Later, a delegation of protesters led by MSF president Hijam Roshan was allowed to meet the BoSEM Secretary.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Roshan said the federation has submitted several memoranda to the Government since June 28, 2021, urging the introduction of a drug use prevention curriculum in textbooks for students from Classes V to XII .
He added that the latest memorandum was submitted on June 16, 2026 .
Stating that drug abuse remains a serious concern among students, Roshan alleged that law enforcement agencies have failed to effectively address the issue.
He further said that drug smuggling continues on a daily basis despite the arrest of several individuals in connection with drug-related offences.
Claiming that a large portion of the smuggled drugs eventually reach the students, he reiterated that educating young people about the dangers of substance abuse is essential in preventing drug abuse and safeguarding their future.
He urged the Government to formulate and introduce a comprehensive curriculum and syllabus on drug use prevention and drug education at the earliest.
