Many mourn demise of Phurailatpam Iboyaima

Condolences poured in from different quarters mourning the unfortunate demise of noted singer, lyricist & educationist Phurailatpam Iboyaima Sharma who passed away today at the age of 81 years.
The Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) has expressed deep condolences over the untimely demise of Phurailatpam Iboyaima Sharma and stated that his death has left a huge vacuum which would be difficult to fill by anyone.
In a release, AMMIK informed that Phurailatpam Iboyaima, a resident of Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal was a renowned educationist who served as a Professor of Department of English at GP Women College and as Head of Department of Economics at Oriental College.
He was also an accomplished writer.
He had been honoured with a number of awards such as "Sangeet Bhushan" by Manipur Sahitya Parishad in 2011; Lifetime Achievement Awards by AMMIK in 2013 and Sheirengbasingee Apunba Lup (SHAL) Manipur in 2020; and Thokchom Sanajaobi Memorial Award 2022 by The Cultural Forum Manipur.
AMMIK has also shared the grief of the bereaved family and prayed that the departed soul may rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
Moreover, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad has also expressed profound sorrow and pain over the demise of renowned singer Phurailatpam Iboyaima Sharma and Dr Khumallambam Sarojini, retired Director of Arts & Culture, Government of Manipur and former Secretary of the Manipur State Kala Akademi.
Dr Sarojini passed away on the morning of July 2, 2024, said a release.
Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, president Longjam Joychandra Singh also chaired a condolence meeting at the auditorium of the Parishad to mourn the passing of Phurailatpam Iboyaima Sharma and Dr Khumallambam Sarojini on Saturday.
The gathering shared the grief of the bereaved families and observed two minutes of silence to pay respect to the departed souls.
