Imphal, March 05 2025:
The All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and the Committee on Human Rights (CoHR) have started preparations to hold the 32nd National Convention on the Manipur Merger Issue on October 29, 2025 .
Speaking to the media in this regard, CoHR chairman Phulindro Konsam said that they will announce the venue of the convention in due time.
Phulindro, meanwhile, said that Manipur's transition from a feudal society to a capitalist society was not smooth.
Saying that many movements were launched against the tyrannical monarchic system as people demanded democracy, he added that Manipur was in a state of unrest for a period after the British departed.
He alleged that India signed a secret agreement with the Manipur King on September 21, 1949, in Shillong, by taking advantage of the situation in Manipur and forcefully merged the erstwhile kingdom with India on October 15, 1949 .
He also claimed that the Merger Agreement did not have any Constitutional validity as Manipur already had a popular Government that was functioning Constitutionally at that time.
