CMO clarifies on Moirangpurel CHC

Imphal, August 04 2026: The Moirangpurel Community Health Centre (CHC) charging Rs 100 for an ODP ticket and Rs 300-Rs 500 for an Ultrasound examination must be arrangements made by the management committee to cover for shortage of fund, said Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Imphal East Dr Lourembam Indira.

The CMO was answering queries of reporters when she made the statement.

The CMO who was attending a press meet in Imphal East said the revelation regarding shortage of facilities made by People's United Youth Alliance (PUYA) during one of its inspections recently was "very helpful" .

"For us who sit in the head office, we know of the affairs of the CHCs only through the respective MOs [Medical Officers].

PUYA's revelation of the ground reality was helpful," Indira said.

The Moirangpurel CHC was inaugurated in 2019.It started operating under a PP Model with the Andro MLA hiring doctors and nurses.

Government doctors were posted at the CHC only after 2021, she said.

At present, the CHC has five Government doctors.

Even though the CHC has evolved from the PP Model to fully functional Government centre, it has not yet received any Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) fund.

This may be the reason for the management committee charging the said amounts for OPD and ultrasound examination, Indira said.

Representations have been submitted for funding the CHC, but this has not yet materialised, she added.

Notably, the Moirangpurel CHC had made headlines after a PUYA inspection revealed that the centre was charging Rs 100 per OPD ticket and between Rs 300 and Rs 500 for ultrasound examination.

Following the inspection, police had arrested the spokesperson of PUYA and allegedly attempted to detain several other members.
