The Indigenous People's Forum Manipur (IPFM) has invited all indigenous communities of the State to participate in the celebration of World Indigenous Day on August 9 under the theme "Indigenous Peoples' Right to Self Determination: A Pathway for Food Security and Sovereignty".
The event will be held at City Convention Centre, Imphal and hosted by IPFM in its role as the Manipur State Chapter of North East Indigenous People's Forum.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Ashang Kasar, president, IPFM, clarified that there is nothing controversial about indigenous people and no controversy with any groups.
As per the United Nations' guidelines, IPFM serves as a platform for indigenous communities in Manipur.
It aims to bring the grievances of indigenous people to the global stage, said the IPFM president.
Addressing the upcoming celebration, he said that delegates from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram will attend the ceremony.
Additionally, the titular king of Tripura will be attending as the chief guest.
Some MLAs from Assam, Tripura and State legislators will also be present, added Ashang Kasar.
He urged all State organisations to refrain from imposing any bandhs/blockades on the said day.
