10 years RI slapped on 2 drug dealers

The Court of Special Judge ND&PS Monalisa Maibam has sentenced two convicted drug dealers to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each in two separate cases today.
The two convicts have been identified as Khupal Khongsai (65) and Md Safiqur Rahaman (31) .
Khupal Khongsai of Molnom village, Litan was convicted by the Court on June 1 this year under Section 21 (C) of ND&PS Act and the sentence hearing was held today.
He was arrested with 3.045 Kg of brown sugar on October 20, 2022 by the Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) from Kanglatongbi.
Today, convict Khupal Khongsai was produced before the Court virtually.
During the sentence hearing, Special PP Moirang- them Raichand prayed the Court for awarding maximum sentence to Khupal khongsai.
The defense Counsel on the other hand pleaded that the convict is an aged person having health issues and it was his first offence.
He is the sole bread earner of his family, said the Counsel and prayed for minimum punishment.
The Court after hearing the submissions, sentenced convict Khupal Khongsai to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
In another case, the Court sentenced Md Safiqur Rahaman (31) to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh under Section 21(c) of ND&PS Act.
Md Safiqur Rahaman hails from Lilong Tairen Makhong.
He was arrested in possession of 16,200 Spasmo Proxyvon (SP capsules) by the police on August 5, 2013 from Sekmai Bazar area.
While the Court convicted him in the case on November 11, 2022, Safiqur escaped and was in hiding until his arrest on June 1 .
Safiqur was produced before the Court for sentence hearing with a plea by the Special PP to award maximum punishment consi- dering the gravity of the offence and his conduct.
After hearing the submissions, the Court of Monalisa Maibam then ordered for Safiqur to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
