Fitting tributes paid to martyrs on 2nd anniversary of Manipur conflict

People of the State stepped out in droves to observe the 2nd anniversary of the May 3, 2023 violence which has left Manipur and its people in turmoil.
BISHNUPUR
The 2nd anniversary of the eruption of violence on May 3, 2023 was observed at Ibudhou Thangjing Laikol in Moirang Ngangkhalawai as "Yelhoumising Mikap Thokhanba Numit" in the presence of former Minister and Bishenpur AC ML A Govindas Konthoujam and Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti.
Ibudhou Thangjing Pana Moirang Sub-Division, Village Volunteer Force Moirang Sub Division and Manipur Chanura Lamjing Lup (MACHAL) Bishnupur District jointly organised the commemorative event.
On the solemn occasion, volunteers of WF Moirang Sub-Division offered salutes to the bravehearts.
Floral tributes were paid on the photos of the martyrs by the MLAs, family members, meira paibis, representatives of CSOs and clubs and the public.
A memorial ceremony was also organised at the Kha Potshangbam Ground in Bishnupur district organised by Arambai Tenggol Bishnupur District Apunba with the attendance of Bishenpur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam, Y Joykumar Singh, former Chief Engineer of PWD and AT members from every unit under the district.
Additionally, National People's Party (NPP) Moirang Block commemorated the 2nd anniversary of the Manipur conflict under the banner of "Indigenes' Unification Day: Remembering Black May 3, 2023" at Moirang Philem Leikai under the supervision of Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti.
As a part of the ceremony, the gathering paid homage to the martyrs of the conflict with a lighted candle in their hands.
NPP Moirang Block also presented simple tokens of appreciation to the families of 12 martyrs and 34 persons who suffered various forms of injuries.
JIRIBAM
COCOMI Jiribam Branch organised a public meeting at Hilghat Maning Leikai Community Hall in solidarity with "Manipur People's Convention on 2 Years of Manipur Crisis".
The gathering observed a one-minute silence to pay their respects to the slain martyrs.
The Jiribam Development Organisation (JDO), Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), United Jiri Youth League (UJYL), Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), Nongchup Ngakpi Chanura Lup (NNCL), Jiri Apunba Khunai Chaokhat Lup (JAKCL), Pari Puri Athouba Ningsing Lup (PPANL) and a student organisation observed the 2nd anniversary of the Manipur conflict at JIMP AL Office under the theme "Bridging Divides For The Shared Future" .
The ceremony was conducted under the supervision of Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur.
KAKCHING
Marking the second anniversary since the beginning of the Manipur conflict, Arambai Tenggol Unit 11 conducted a memorial ceremony at Thongjao Awang Leikai public playground.
The gathering paid homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives to safeguard Manipur during the protracted turmoil.
School students from different parts of Kakching, local clubs, CSOs, meira paibis and members of different AT units were present at the gathering.
THOUBAL
Thousands of people gathered today at Thoubal Wangkhem Lampak to pay homage to the martyrs, including State and Central security personnel, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Manipur crisis.
The memorial ceremony was jointly organised by seven units of Arambai Tenggol (AT Unit 1 Thoubal, Unit 2 Yairipok, Unit 3 Wangjing, Unit 4 Khangabok, Unit 5 Heirok, Unit 53 Ukhongshang and Unit 56 Waithou).
AT members, clubs, organisations, associations, meira paibis from different regions, students and friends and family of the martyrs congregated today to pay homage to the Meitei bravehearts and observed a 2-minute silence.
The gathering offered prayers and floral tributes on the photos of the martyred AT members, village volunteers, ordinary citizens, and 13 State and Central personnel.
Private Schools' Development Council, Thoubal District also observed the 2nd anniversary of May 3, 2023 under the banner of "Yelhoumee Kanba Numit amadi Eeramdam Ngakpa Numit" at Peace and Freedom Academy located at Thoubal Haokha Sorarel.
Marking the day as "2nd Resistance Day", Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) held a commemorative event at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex Relief Camp Ground.
Natives of Moreh who fled the border town in the wake of the May 3 violence and sought shelter in various relief camps across the State, as well as those who found a second home with their relatives, attended the event while donning black badges.
During the solemn event, the congregation paid floral tributes to the seven individuals from Moreh who lost their lives in the violence and the two Moreh residents who remain untraceable to this day.
A 2-minute silence was also observed in their honour.
Towards the end of the ceremony, the IDPs from Moreh resolved to submit a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla demanding their safe return to their homes.
Commemorating the eruption of violence on May 3, 2023, a large number of people gathered at Kheba Ching, Khongjom to observe "2nd Solidarity Day" and honour the martyrs.
The gathering observed a two-minute silence to pay their respects to the deceased bravehearts at the memorial event organised by the Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) .
Prayers and floral tributes were also offered, said the TAKDAL press release.
Additionally, TAKDAL has urged the relevant authority to make way for dialogue to bring normalcy in Manipur.
