Imphal, January 03 2015 :
Congress MLA Y Erabot has stated that the State Government should not try to suppress the mass movements aimed at implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State nor should it resort to any sort of dilly-dallying tactics.
MLA Y Erabot said this while inaugurating a newly constructed dance hall as part of the opening ceremony of Gaan Ngai festival at Chingmeirong Rongmei village.
Speaking at the occasion, Erabot asserted that the Government should not suppress the mass movements for enforcement of ILPS in the State or delay enactment of a similar legislation.
People need not take part in every agitation before understanding the underlying demands.
In view of the incessant influx of non-local people, the Government should issue a notification for identification of all non-local people with 1980 as the base year.
Labourers coming from different parts of India should not be segregated while ignoring Myanmar Nationals who have settled at different parts of Chandel district and Nepalese whose population has been swelling at Kangpokpi.
The Government should focus on identifying illegal migrants, Erabot asserted.
Asserting that the Kabui community has been sharing a major role in preserving the collective identity of Manipuri Nation, Erabot noted that Chingmeirong Kabui Khul is one village among seven Kabui villages located within Wangkhei A/C which has been successfully safeguarding all the ancient traditions.
Conveying his best wishes to the gathering, the Congress MLA prayed that Gaan Ngai festival may bring communal harmony and peace in Manipur.
The opening ceremony was presided by Magu Rongmei.
