World AIDS Day 2025 observed widely in State

World AIDS Day was observed widely in the State today to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, support those living with the virus, and honor those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
MASLSA
The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) observed World AIDS Day at the conference hall of the ADR Building, Lamphelpat in association with the Christian Network for Positive Women, Manipur (CNPWM).
The observance was organised as per the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), aligning with this year's global theme, "Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response" .
The programme was graced by Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA; S Mangaleibi Devi, Additional Member Secretary, MASLSA; and Wonchung, Chairman, CNPWM .
Members of CNPWM and staff of MASLSA also attended the event.
Delivering the welcome address, Alek Muivah highlighted that the fatality rate of HIV/AIDS has significantly reduced over the years and is comparatively lower than several other non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes.
He also stressed on the importance of having a strong community network and groups to support each other amongst such infected persons.
He stated that the world is slowly accepting such a person with HIV and the global observance of World AIDS Day on December 1 reflects international recognition of the struggle and challenges faced by them.
He further encouraged them not to lose hope and expressed confidence that with the rapid advancing science and technology, a drug will soon be made for the complete cure of AIDS with affordable price.
Wonchung shared her personal journey of living with HIV for over 25 years and recounted the discrimination faced by individuals in the past.
She highlighted the ongoing efforts of CNPWM in supporting widows and women living with HIV, while drawing attention to the financial hardships faced by them, particularly in meeting essential needs such as vitamin supplements required to minimise ART side effects.
She appealed for compassion, understanding, and collective support from society.
Vitamin Supplements and Milton water bottles were also distributed to the participants as a gesture of support and care.
SCERT
Joining the rest of the world, the Directorate of State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Government of Manipur observed World Aids Day at its multipurpose hall in Lamphelpat today.
The event was graced by A Romel Singh, Director, SCERT; Kh Ashokkumar Singh, Joint Director (NFE), HOO/DDO, SCERT; and Dr L Tomcha Khuman, former Director, Family Welfare Services as presidium members.
At the event, speakers shared that spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS is crucial for preventing new infections, combating stigma, and encouraging testing and treatment.
They also emphasized that eradicating AIDS requires a unified, collective effort involving governments, healthcare organisations, communities, and individuals worldwide.
CADA
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) observed World AIDS Day today at its head office in Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East.
The event was graced by Leimarol Lamjingkon (LEIMAKON) president MC Reeta, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar and Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL) president Yumlembam Memma as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, CADA secretary general Takhellambam Geetchandra Meitei said that Manipur's proximity to the Golden Triangle has significantly contributed to high rates of substance abuse and intravenous drug users (IDUs) in the State.
He expressed concern that this situation, coupled with the ongoing conflict, may cause a spike in the number of HIV/AIDS cases within the State.
He also called for stronger collaboration among CSOs, NGOs, local clubs and Meira Paibis to prevent new HIV infections in the State.
LIFE SAVERS
In line with the observance of World AIDS Day, RDO College of Nursing, Life Savers Manipur and HDFC Bank jointly organised a blood donation camp at RDO Complex, Lamdeng.
The camp was conducted under the aegis of RIMS Blood Bank, Imphal.
MNP+
Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) observed World AIDS Day at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall in Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal today.
The observance was graced by SASO general secretary Yumnam Shasikumar Singh, Care Foundation general secretary Thangjam Jotin Singh, KRIPA Society president Hijam Dinesh Singh, CONE general secretary RK Nalinikanta, ADUM general secretary L Gopicharan Singh and MNP+ general secretary Salam Udita Devi as presidium members.
MNP+ president Leimapokpak Deepak Singh was also present at the event.
As part of the event, the participants observed a moment of silence to pay respect to the people who have passed away due to HIV/AIDS .
