Accused in ambush on ex-CM convoy remanded

Imphal, October 01 2026:
Special Court NIA Manipur today remanded one more accused in connection with the ambush on a convoy of then Chief Minister N Biren on June 10, 2024 along Imphal-Jiribam highway at K Sinam village.
The arrested person has been identified as Janggoulen Khongsai alias Goulen Khongsai (21) s/o Songhen Khongsai of Old Gelmol, Churachandpur, staying at present at Veitum Kholen, Kangpokpi district.
The accused was formally arrested by NIA Imphal branch in connection with the ambush and was produced before the special Court NIA Manipur.
The Court, after hearing the submission of Special PP NIA and on perusal of the case record, remanded the alleged accused in NIA custody till October 6 .
Later in the evening, Janggoulen Khongsai alias Goulen Khongsai was taken to Delhi from Imphal Airport, said sources.
On September 29, two accused identified as Jangminlun Singson alias Franky (44), resident of Bethel, Churachandpur, and Thangjoel Haokip alias Thangboi (21), resident of Gamphajang Tuibong, Churachandpur were produced before the Court in connection with the same case and taken into NIA custody till October 6 .
The three of them will be produced before the same Court on October 6 through video conferencing, said the sources.
Notably, unknown armed miscreants ambushed the Chief Minister's convoy on NH-37 near K Sinam village on June 10, 2024, causing grievous injuries to two security personnel and damage to Government vehicles.
An FIR was originally registered at New Keithelmanbi police station and before the NIA took over the case after re-registering the case on July 11, 2024 .
