Imphal, May 31 2024:
Collection of illegal tax or entry fee from Naga people travelling to Churachandpur district in the guise of donation by organisations of the Zo-Kuki community is highly condemned and this should end immediately, said Rongmei organisations today.
In a joint statement, the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, Khoupum, Longmai and Ntayphay Luangrian said various unknown organisations are illegally collecting money on Old Cachar road and National Highway-37 .
They said the illegal collection of tax may cause communal disharmony disrupting the peaceful atmosphere between the communities and create hardship to the local population, especially marginal businesses, commuters and local vehicles plying the roads.
They added the Zo-Kuki organisations collecting money from Nagas travelling to Churachandpur district is highly condemnable and such activities must cease immediately.
"Failure to comply with the organisations' appeal and directive may be taken as undermining the Rongmei people in general..." said the Rongmei organisations, seeking cooperation from like-minded organisations and people of the State.
