Offensive against poppy plantations : ZUF burns farm houses used for poppy plantation

Imphal, January 27 2026:
Intensifying its campaign against poppy cultivation and unlawful encroachment, the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) burned down around five houses including huts allegedly used in poppy plantation in K Songlung (II) village, Kangpokpi district under Kangchup police station at around 12.15 pm on January 26, 2026 .
Sources said that ZUF cadres also destroyed other items used in poppy plantation.
After the incident, Central armed forces and Kangpokpi district police rushed to the site and carried out an area domination exercise.
However, there is no report of any arrest or recovery of arms and ammunition.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the ministry of information and publicity, ZUF said that those involved (in illegal poppy cultivation and encroachment) have deliberately ignored the will of the indigenous people and continued illegal activities that seriously threaten public safety, indigenous land rights and the future of the region.
The outfit has also declared that no foreign or illegal settlers shall be permitted to exploit, occupy or degrade the ancestral land of the Zeliangrong Inpui Naga people under any pretext.
Saying that it has resolved to eliminate illegal poppy cultivation and narcotics networks, remove all unauthorised settlements from indigenous land, it added "the defence of our land, identity and future is non-negotiable" .
