Centre has acted on some resolutions: Biren

Imphal, November 26 2024: Claiming that the Government of India has translated some of the resolutions adopted by the ruling MLAs on November 18 into action, Chief Minister N Biren has appealed to the people to calm down.

Briefing media persons at the Chief Minister's Secretariat this evening, N Biren said that NIA has taken up the brutal murder case of three women and three children as resolved at the ruling MLAs' meeting.

The State Government has received an official intimation in this regard, he said.

Moreover, search operations are being carried out continuously at Jiribam after sending additional security forces.

After the unfortunate incident which took place on November 11, two more CRPF companies have been deployed at Jiribam and combing operations are being carried out there.

But there is no report of any arrest so far, the Chief Minister said.

The Government has been considering announcing all those involved in the brutal crime as wanted men after identifying them.

The Government was not disclosing it to the public as it is a confidential matter related to security, Biren said.

As resolved by Ministers and ruling MLAs, the Government and the people shall collectively exert pressure on the Centre to lift AFSPA from the jurisdictions of six police stations where AFSPA has been reimposed, he said.

The State Government too will ask the Centre to lift AFSPA, he added.

All demands cannot be achieved at once.

The demand for declaring all those people involved in the brutal crime as terrorists demands proper identification.

As such, it will take some time, he said.

Biren said that the NIA has registered three FIRs.

As requested by the State Government, the Centre sent 50 additional companies of Central paramilitary forces and they have been deployed in vulnerable areas, Biren said.

Taking serious note of the people's suspicion that Central forces deployed in peripheral areas acted in partisan and biased manner, the Government has started deploying 'neutral' CRPF and BSF troops at these places, he continued.

Everyone needs to give serious thought to the NIA's observation that foreign conspiracy has its hands in the Manipur crisis, the Chief Minister stated.

Everything the Government is doing cannot be disclosed to the public.

Nonetheless, the Government has been working to show its resolve by action.

At the same time, people need to be extremely watchful.

Claiming that the Centre has granted some of the demands, Biren appealed to COCOMI to withdraw its proposed agitation in the interest of the people.

On the other hand, a zero FIR has been registered at Sekmai police station in connection with the disappearance of Laishram Kamal Babu (65) from Leimakhong army camp.

Combined teams of State and Central forces have launched intensive search operations to trace the missing man, Biren said.

Meanwhile, another FIR has been registered in connection with the statement made by MLA Paolienlal Haokip on the Jiribam carnage, he said.

On being enquired about the Ministry of Home Affairs' direction to the telecom operators to preserve call records of the people of Manipur for five years, the Chief Minister maintained that the State Government has not yet received any official intimation from the Centre on the matter.
