Gadkari turns down highway expansion proposal

Imphal, October 24 2024: The Central Government has rejected a proposal of the State Government for expansion of the Malom-Moirang section of NH-102 .

Earlier, during the time of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, the State Government submitted a proposal to develop the particular road as a four-lane highway, and Nitin Gadkari was the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways.

Nitin Gadkari is still in-charge of the same Ministry.

He had then approved the proposal submitted during the time of Ibobi, sources said.

Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister and Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam held a meeting at Delhi on October 21 and discussed the National Highways of Manipur.

During the meeting, Govindas Konthoujam raised a proposal for developing Malom-Moirang section of NH-102 as a four-lane highway but the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways rejected the proposal, said the sources.

According to the sources, one primary reason for rejecting the proposal might be the huge amount proposed for payment of land compensation.

As expansion of the particular highway section will affect four/five markets, a huge amount will be needed for payment of compensation, the sources added.
