Imphal, February 24 2025:
The special meeting of BJP legislators scheduled on Monday at the residence of MLA Sapam Kunjakeswar at Sagolband Tera has been aborted at the directive of BJP North East in-charge Sambit Patra.
The scheduled meeting which was supposed to discuss the unfolding scenario following imposition of President's Rule (suspended animation) in the aftermath of N Biren's resignation from the post of Chief Minister has been postponed indefinitely.
Apart from Sambit Patra categorically asking the BJP MLAs not to hold the scheduled meeting, absence of some BJP MLAs from the State currently was another factor for postponing the special meeting.

Even as joint convenors Kh Ibomcha and Kongkham Robindro issued a notice yesterday asking all the BJP MLAs to attend the meeting without fail, some MLAs were found outside the State for personal matters while some others expressed inability to attend the meeting on medical ground.
Subsequently, Kh Ibomcha and K Robindro issued a notice this morning informing that the special meeting scheduled today has been postponed indefinitely until further notice.
Sources informed that ex-Ministers Govindas Konthoujam, Thongam Biswajit, Dr Sapam Ranjan, H Dingo and a few MLAs are currently outside the State for personal matters.
Govindas Konthoujam sent a letter to K Robindro's quarters this morning saying that he would not be able to attend the meeting as he is currently outside the State for some pressing personal matters.
Nonetheless, he declared that he would support whatever decision was taken at the special meeting.
Th Biswajit called Kh Ibomcha over phone and conveyed his inability to attend the meeting as he is currently outside the State.
Biswajit too declared that he would support any unanimous decision adopted at the meeting.
On the other hand, BJP North East in-charge Sambit Patra called both Kh Ibomcha and Sapam Kunjakeswar over phone and categorically asked them not to hold the scheduled special meeting of BJP legislators, said the sources.
Moreover, BJP Central leaders asked some BJP MLAs over phone not to hold any formal meeting of BJP legislators by issuing official notice.
BJP Central leaders opposed the aborted official meeting of BJP legislators because they suspected that the State's BJP legislators may adopt an official decision to stake claim to form a new Government, said the sources.
BJP Central leaders made it clear that BJP legislators may sit together and discuss public issues but no official meeting should be held, the sources added.
