Imphal, May 23 2017: Students of Class XII studying in schools under the Council of Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), did marginally better than their seniors with the pass percentage this year pegged at 68.81 while in 2016 the pass percentage was 65.42 .

The Class XII examination this year was held from March 20 to April 21 .

This year girls did marginally better than boys with 9011 declared passed compared to 8976 boys who managed to crack the examination last year.

In 2016, 9017 boys passed the exam compared to 8553 girls. Out of 26139 students who appeared for the examination, 17987 passed taking the pass percentage to 68.81 .

Newly created Tengnoupal district led the way in notching up the highest pass percentage amongst the districts returning a handsome figure of 95.93 pass percentage.

Another newly created district Noney came a credible second with 90.7 percent of the students clearing the Class XII exams.

As in the last examination, Thoubal district again did creditably well with 83.73 percentage of the students cracking the exam followed by Jiribam with 73.55 pc.

Imphal West recorded a pass percentage of 71.84 while Imphal East recorded a poor 56.63 pass percentage.

If the two newly created districts, Tengnoupal and Noney occupied the top two spots in the pass percentage, another newly created district, Kangpokpi occupied the bottom rung with 29.97 pass percentage.

Science : As in the past years, students from schools located in Imphal walked away with the lion's share, the major difference being, some of the 'favourites' were relegated to the background.

While the first position holder went to a student from Inspire Science Academy, Ghari, Gurumayum Gopal-krishna Sharma, Millennium Institute of Sciences, Sagolband Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi bagged the lion's share in the first five positions with three of its students bagging the second (two students) and third position.

Xtra Edge School, Ghari showed its extra edge with nine of its students coming in the first top 20 positions.

Herbert School, Changangei continued its good showing at the Class XII exams with six of its students coming in the first 20 positions while MECI Explorer Academy had four students in the top 20.COMET had three students in the merit list.

ARTS : In Arts, EK Higher Secondary School hogged the limelight with six of its students coming in the first six position with Ngangom Jinita topping.

COMMERCE : It was Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Maram all the way in Commerce with four of its students coming in the top five positions with Shap Makan coming out tops.

A Government school, CC Higher Secondary School, found its name in the merit list when its student Th Loyangamba Meitei occupied the fourth position in the Commerce stream.

Earlier announcing the results of the Class XII examinations, Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that despite the hectic election schedule, the employees of COHSEM and teachers concerned put in their mite to be able to declare the Class XII exams results without much hiccup this year.
