Jiribam, November 21 2024: The mortal remains of the eight civilians slaughtered by 'Kuki-Hmar terrorists' and the student who was gunned down by security personnel at Jiribam PWD Guest House will be laid to rest at Ningshing Khun at the border district tomorrow.

The site of the burial is donated by social worker N Budhachandra who contested the 2022 Assembly election in Jiribam.

The decision to bury the remains of the nine persons together was taken after the Government representatives held a meeting with the JACs concerned at the office of All Jiribam Meira Paibi Lup at Jiribam's Babupara today.

It may be mentioned that Athouba Khundrakpam (22), was killed in police firing at PWD Guest House in Jiribam on the night of November 17.The police team was led by Senior SP (Combat) Nectar Sanjenbam.

Of the eight civilians, meanwhile, six were murdered in cold blood after they were taken captive by Kuki-Hmar groups while the two others were found dead at Jakuradhor Karong on November 11 .

The two persons identified as Laishram Barel (63) and Maibam Kesho (71) were found amidst the ruins of the charred properties.

While Barel's body was found charred, Kesho's partially burnt body had bullet wounds.

The six persons who were slaughtered after they were abducted by Kuki-Hmar groups, on the other hand, are Yurembam Rani (61); Laishram Heitombi (25), her two sons L Chingkheinganba (2) and L Lanngamba (eight months); Telem Thoibi (30) and her daughter Thajanganbi (8).Their bodies were found floating in Barak and Jiri Rivers.

The body of the 2 year old boy had both arms and head missing.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Shyam-kumar Mutum, convenor of the JAC against the brutal killing of Khundrakpam Athouba Singh and the serious injury of Keisam Bison Singh, said that they agreed to claim the bodies and hold the funeral after coming to terms with the Government.

He said that dismissing Nectar and providing ex-gratia and a suitable job to the victim's family were part of the agreement and appealed to the Government to release all the people who were arrested while protesting against the killing in Jiribam.

Convenor of JAC against the brutal killing of eight innocent people Y Sanjoy said that they decided to claim the bodies after the Chief Minister agreed to entertain their demands.
