2 AR men killed, five hurt in ambush

Imphal, September 19 2025:
At least two paramilitary personnel were killed and five others sustained injuries when suspected militants ambushed a team of 33 Assam Rifles stationed at Maibam Lotpa Ching today evening.
According to information culled from the spot, a team of Assam Rifles personnel was returning to Maibam Lotpa Ching when their 407 mini-truck was ambushed by suspected militants at Nambol Sabal Leikai, Bishnupur district at around 5.50 pm today.
The militants attacked the Assam Rifles' vehicle from the junction leading to Kabowakching and they sprayed around 40 bullets on the mini truck.
The attack flattened both the front wheels of the truck.

Moreover, one AR personnel sitting in the front and another sitting in the rear were killed on the spot.
The two deceased AR personnel have been identified as Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung (58) and Rifleman Kashav (29) .
Five other AR personnel including the driver sustained injuries and they were immediately evacuated to CHC Nambol.
They were later referred to RIMS Hospital.
The injured have been identified as Ningthoukhongjam Nongthon (48) s/ o N Ibomcha of Keibi Khullen, Imphal East, DJ Dutta (36) (driver ) s/o Lakhiyam Dutta of Lakhimpur, Assam, Havildar BK Rai (58) s/o Birjai Rai from Sikkim, LP Sangma (46) s/o L Waitstick S Momin from Tura, Meghalaya and Warrant Officer Subashchandra s/o Gundilal from Uttarakhand.
Even after it came under attack, the vehicle moved on for around 40-50 metres before coming to a halt in the middle of the road and the mini truck was seen standing across the road on the western side of the road.
A team of Forensic Science experts came to the spot and conducted an inquest of the damaged vehicles and its surrounding area up to the Kabowakching junction.
Soon after, top police and Assam Rifles officers including IG AR (South) came and inspected the ambush site.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched massive search operations in suspected areas.
So far, no suspect has been arrested nor any group has claimed responsibility for the deadly ambush.
On the other hand, all the shops of the adjoining areas shut down their shutters soon after the ambush.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Defence (Manipur, Nagaland & southern Arunachal Pradesh) PRO and Spokesperson said that a vehicle-based column of an Assam Rifles unit was moving on NH-2 through Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district at around 5.50 pm today when unidentified militants ambushed the column.
In the ensuing action, two AR personnel were martyred and five others were injured.
The injured have been evacuated to RIMS Imphal and all of them are currently stable, it said.
