Imphal, June 18 2024:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has decried that the high-level meeting on the security situation of Manipur convened and chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at New Delhi on Monday was rather humiliating to the State Government as well as all the people of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at his Babupara official residence today, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that the high-level meeting on the more than year old Manipur violence was unconstitutional.
The seventh schedule of the Constitutional lays down very clearly that law and order is a State subject.

As neither the Chief Minister nor any legislator of the State was present at the meeting, it humiliated the State Government as well as all the people of Manipur, apart from being unconstitutional, Meghachandra said.
With the State Government saying one thing on the Manipur crisis while the Central Government has been saying something totally different, it appears that there is a discord between the State Government and the Central Government with regard to the protracted crisis, he remarked.
Supply of petroleum and petroleum products is running alarmingly low whereas prices of all essential commodities have skyrocketed. With almost all Government departments paralysed, many welfare schemes have been derailed, he said.
Even with security escorts, the Government is unable to ensure free movement of vehicles on National Highways.
It is also unable to pay salaries and pensions on time, he said.
Meghachandra said that this is unprecedented in the history of Manipur.
He then questioned why the BJP's double-engine Government has been subjecting the people of Manipur to such extreme misery for such a long period of time.
Pointing out that both the chairman of the Unified Command and the DGP are from outside the State, the MPCC president asked if they fully understand the grievances of the people and the complexity of the crisis.
"Do the Assam Rifles understand the grievances of the people? Should they run the State's administration by themselves?" he asked.
With the State Government totally bypassed in running the State's administration, it appears that both Articles 355 and 356 have been invoked in the State, he added.
Although the Central Government has not yet made any official announcement on promulgating Articles 355 and 356 in the State, how New Delhi has been treating the popular Government of Manipur and her people is highly questionable, Meghachandra said.
The Modi 3.0 Government has announced a number of development programmes for the country but the new Government has not yet spoken a single word on the Manipur crisis.
As such, it is the same old Government which undermined the people of Manipur and has no intention to bring peace and normalcy in the State, he said.
The INDIA Bloc has already sought an appointment with the Governor and the Chief Minister to discuss the people's suffering and the violence at Jiribam, said the MPCC president and confided that they may meet with Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday.
