Imphal, April 18 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has assured action against Kuki militants who disrespected and defiled the Salai Taret flag in a viral clip, claimed Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha.
He made the statement while inspecting the site alloted to construct Nung-thabi Khubam at Hidam Pat at Sekta in Lamlai today.
During the visit, Ibomcha said that the Governor gave the assurance during a meeting with seven MLAs yesterday.
The MLAs who called on the Governor were Karam Shyam (Langthabal), Kh Ibomcha (Lamlai), Sapam Kunjakeswor (Patsoi), Dr Sapam Ranjan (Konthou-jam), Dr U Deben (Waba- gai), RK Imo (Sagolband) and Dinganglung Gangmei (Nungba) .
The Governor assured action against Kuki militants who kicked and stomped on the Salai Taret flag in a viral clip, similar to how some people were booked for brandishing guns while playing football in Kangpokpi during the meeting, the MLA said.
Stating they also raised concerns about restricted movement across the State, including highways, with the Governor, he said that free movement announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah remains an issue although gunfights have stopped since the imposition of President's Rule.
The MLA further stated that they urged the Governor to expedite peace talks between Meetei and Kuki groups, intensify recovery of illegal arms in hill districts, rebuild houses of displaced people under security cover, take up welfare initiatives of displaced students and release compensation for farmers affected by the crisis.
He said the Governor assured them that their demands would be fulfilled.
The MLA, meanwhile, clarified that they didn't demand the appointment of another IAS officer as Chief Secretary during the meeting.
The report that they demanded the Chief Secretary's replacement is baseless, he said.
Ibomcha also held a press briefing at Thambal Shang-len today and disclosed what was discussed with the Governor yesterday.
