Independence Day celebrated in district Hqrs

Imphal, August 16 2014 : Amidst the 24-hour total shut down imposed by TNL in Ukhrul district coupled with UNC's call for abstention from programme organized under the aegis of State Government, the 68th Independence Day was celebrated at Mini Secretariat Ukhrul.

Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrishikeesh Arvind, who attended the function as chief guest, unfurled the national flag at 9.10 am.

The district administration relaxed 144 Cr PC Prohibition from 6 am till 12 noon.

Police made a public announcement early in the morning that free transport facility would be provided to the people to attend the celebration.

The public turnout was minimal as most people stayed indoors throughout the day.

MH Arvind while speaking at the occasion called on the people to be patriotic.

He also mentioned developmental issues and ills of deforestation etc during his speech.

In the meantime, posthumous National Bravery Award (Sarvotam Jeevan Raksha Award) was presented to (late) Master M Khayingthei (13) of OTC Juniors' Academy.

His father M David of Tushar Chahong, Ukhrul received the award.

The award comprised of Rs 1.2 lakh along with a certificate and a medal.

LAMKA: Even as Churachanpdur observed the district level Independence Day celebration drawing huge crowd at Lamka public ground with a record number of parade contingents, DC PK Jha and SP K Kabib joined the blood donation camp, organized to commemorate the day at district hospital.

The day's celebration began at 9:30 am with the Chief Guest PK Jha inspecting 62 parade contingents.

He then unfurled the National flag, received salute from the contingents and delivered his speech.

The events were followed by the display of various cultural items and the inspection of makeshift stalls, set-up by different Departments.

It then winded up with the presentation of prizes and various district level awards.

Earlier on the eve of the Independence Day, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing inaugurated the Independence Day blood donation camp at district hospital Churachandpur wherein volunteers from the NYK, staff of DRDA, the district police and the DFO Singngat joined DC and SP Churachandpur in donating blood.

SENAPATI: The 68th Independence Day was also celebrated in Senapati with DC Jacintha Lazarus as Chief Guest.

Opening of stalls by different Government Departments, guard of honour, highest numbers of commendation certificates, maximum gates, presence of ASHA and SHG workers in the parade, free distributions of seeds by Horticulture Department, mobile sale of kerosene, introducing a rolling trophy for friendly matches were the main highlights of the celebration which drew a huge crowd.

Jacintha Lazarus hoisted the tricolour after a formal inspection of the parade contingents.

About 13 contingents including Senapati police, 35 AR band, VDF, JNV schools, UJB schools, ASHA workers, SHGs and Aganwadi workers participated in the march past parade.

A friendly football match was also organised wherein DC XI beat and ADC XI 3-2.Bad weather and muddy ground could not dampen the spirit of the people present at the celebration.

Speaking at the occasion, Jacintha Jazarus said, "Though we stand in a free country we still have more freedom struggles to fight.

We still need independence from social evils, independence from ecological degradation and independence from disunity and violence".

Regarding development front, she said, "Under MGNREGA 19 villages joined hands together to plant a massive 1.2 lakh saplings in the catchment area of Taphou Naga water supply project area to augment the water supply in the town headquarters" .

TAMENGLONG : Tamenglong also celebrated the 68th Independence Day with DC C Arthur W as chief guest at District Mini Stadium.

Soon after his arrival at the celebration venue, he inspected the parade contingents before he unfurled the National flag.

Later, he received salute from eleven parade contingents of Manipur Police, Manipur Rifles, VDF, College and School students.

SDPO John Lokho was the parade commander.

Speaking on the occasion, Arthur said that the district has also begun implementation of Rashtriya Bal Swastha Karyakram, which intends to maintain good health for children, especially school children, from July 2014 .

He also expressed satisfaction to State Government's recent decision to upgrade Haochong and Noney to the status of Sub-Divisions.

Later, the DC distributed prizes to gate construction and march past competitions.

CHANDEL: The 68th Independence Day was celebrated at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School Ground.

Organised by the Chandel District administration, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, Th Chittaranjan was the chief guest of the function which was attended by top officials of the district including that of Chandel SP, COs of 8th MR Leikun and 20 AR Chandel and CEO ADC/CDL.

Besides, DLOs, Principals, headmasters and teachers of Govt colleges and schools, a large no of Government and employees of the district attended the function.

Th Chittaranjan hoisted the National flag with National salute.

He inspected the guard of honour led by the parade commander Khanam Robinson, Assistant Commandant of 8th MR Leikun.

During the celebration, Contingents of 8th MR Leikun, district police, exservicemen, college and Govt school students took part in the march past.

In connection with the celebration of Independence Day 2014, a special issue of 'Chandel Newsletter' which was published by the District Information Office, Chandel was also brought out and distributed to the general public.

Speech of the Chief Guest, cultural dances, 20AR Chandel band display, distribution of awards and prizes were the main highlights of the day.

THOUBAL: The Independence Day was celebrated at Basu Ground Khangabok with DC T Ranjit as Chief Guest.

The DC hoisted the National flag and received salute from 42 parade contingents at the celebration.

Deputy SP (Ops) Thokchom Shangkar Deba was the parade commander.

Altogether 71 individuals were awarded with meritorious awards at the function.

Students of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok performed Bharatyam and 2 Assam Rifles presented band display.

BISHNUPUR: The DC Jason A Shaimary was the Chief Guest of the Independence Day celebration held at Mini Secretariat ground.

The DC unfurled the National flag and received salute from 22 march past contingents comprising of police, Home Guards, VDF, NGOs and students.

Independence Day was also celebrated at Sadar Hills and Jiribam Sub-Divisional headquarters.
