Moirang, April 15 2026:
The mass protest launched since April 7 against the murder of two sleeping toddlers in a terror attack carried out by Kuki militants in the wee hours of April 7, 2026 and the death of three civilians in indiscriminate firing by CRPF turned violent on Tuesday.
A large group of protesters were blocking Tiddim Road at Thinungei when a Bolero Pick-Up truck and a Verna car approached them from the direction of Imphal at around 2 pm.
The protesters asked the occupants of the vehicles to produce their identity cards but the occupants stubbornly refused to show their identity cards even though the occupants identified themselves as Assam Rifles personnel.

As the two sides were engaged in an argument over the unwillingness of the self-proclaimed AR personnel to show their identity cards, some of the protesters physically assaulted the occupants of the two vehicles.
It is said that the self-proclaimed AR personnel were dressed in civilian fatigue and there were tribal men among them.
As the self-proclaimed AR personnel ran to a nearby house, the infuriated mob set ablaze their vehicles.
On getting information of the incident, a large number of police personnel led by the Bishnupur SP arrived at the scene and surrounded the house where the self-proclaimed AR personnel were taking refuge.
In the meantime, more and more protesters from different directions gathered at the scene.
As the police personnel could no longer control the situation, a strong team of Rapid Action Force (RAF) was called.
Soon after arriving at the scene, the RAF team targeted the protesters with tear gas shells and smoke bombs.
Taking advantage of the situation, the police team led by the Bishnupur SP rescued the seven men hiding inside a house and took them away.
On learning that the self-proclaimed AR men dressed in civilian fatigue and who looked suspicious were taken away in a police vehicle, the protesters stoned the police vehicles and blocked both sides of the road.
Police managed to take away the suspicious looking men toward Bishnupur after RAF dispersed the protesters by firing multiple rounds of tear gas shells and smoke bombs.
Many protesters and police personnel sustained injury in the confrontation.
