Several places flooded, many rivers in spate

Once again, relentless rainfall over the past few days has unleashed widespread flooding across Manipur, submerging homes, farmlands, and roads in different districts.
Moreover, several rivers have risen above flood levels, sparking widespread concern.
In Lamlai Constituency, several areas including Yaingangpokpi, Santi Khongbal, Sabungkhok Khunou, and others have been severely flooded, submerging numerous houses, poultry farms, and fish farms.
At least one thousand households were affected due to torrential rain across many villages around Yaingangpokpi area in Imphal East district.
There are also reports of mudslides at TM Kasom in Ukhrul district, landslides at Awangkhul area in Noney district, Yangkhullen area in Senapati districts.

According to a late report received here landslides along Litan to Shokvao village have been cleared but restrictions on movement of heavy vehicles including goods trucks and buses have been placed.
Affected residents have been evacuated to relief camps for safety and support.
Thoubal district has also reported extensive flooding, with several localities such as Wangjing Wangkhei, Wangjing Hodamba, Wangjing SK Leikai and Wangjing Laikol submerged.
A relief camp established for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex has also been inundated, complicating relief efforts for those already displaced.
Nongdambi River, flowing through Wangjing-Tentha and Heirok Assembly Constituencies, has been obstructed due to landslides at Kairembikhok Mamang Ching and this blockage has led to severe flooding at villages such as Kairenbikhok, Shalungpham, Langmeithet and Lourembam.
It is reported that over 200 homes have been flooded at Shalungpham alone.
The swollen river has also inundated large parts of Sangaiyumpham Part I in Khangabok.
A wooden bridge connecting Yairipok Changamdabi in Imphal East and Yairipok Malom in Thoubal was swept away by floodwater, severing a critical link between the two areas and hampering local connectivity.
Reportedly, key bridges at Chongjang-Songbem, T Gamnom-K Laitwi, Denglen-Molkon Bazar, Lhungtin-Mollen, Gallam-Somphung, and Gangpikon-Mollen in Kangpokpi have also been submerged.
Several other low-lying areas and hill districts have also reported flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides, PTI reported.
Landslides were reported at Awangkhul (Noney district), as well as in the hill districts of Senapati and Kamjong.
Meanwhile, according to the latest reports from the Water Resources Department (WRD), many major rivers such as Imphal River, Nambol River, Nambul River and Thoubal River were recorded above flood level.
The water level of Imphal River reached 781.400 at its Lilong gauge site (flood level 786.900) at 6 pm and 785.650 at Minuthong gauge site (flood level 786.900) at 7 pm.
The water level of Nambul River rose from 781.900 at 6 am to 782.350 at 6 pm (recorded at hump bridge gauge site) .
Nambul River was found flowing at -773.800 at Nambol bridge gauge site at 6 pm.
The flood level of the river is 773.700 .
The water level of the Thoubal River was recorded at 780.100 at 6 pm at the Thoubal bridge gauge site (flood level 779.915) .
Iril and Manipur Rivers, on the other hand, were found flowing within normal level at 787.325 (Irilbung bridge gauge site) and 769.140 (Ithai barrage gauge site) respectively.
It is reported that four out of five gates of Imphal Barrage have been opened.
Thoubal barrage has also opened four out of five gates.
Shamusang regulator of Nambul River, on the other hand, is still closed.

Manipur had faced severe flooding in May and June this year as well, with official reports indicating damage to over 3,365 homes and impacting 19,811 people.
