Imphal, September 11 2025:
Even as strict security measures have been taken up at Imphal and Churachandpur ahead of the reported visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to these two places on September 13, ruffians and rowdies took to the street late in the evening and went on a destruction spree at Churachandpur today.
Violence started at Pearsorunun village in the evening and according to reports received here at office of The Sangai Express, a number of rowdies took to the street and started dismantling the bamboo barricades erected ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.

The dismantled barricades were then set aflame.
Sources said that the violence started after news of the coffins kept at Peace Ground to adorn the Wall of Remembrance to mark the violence, went missing.
It is still not clear who removed the coffins kept there as a symbolic reminder of the violence.
The unidentified ruffians broke the bamboo barricades which have been put up ahead of the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister.
Video footages of the ruffians going berserk and tearing down the bamboo barricades have gone viral on the social media.
The face of one such ruffian was clearly visible in one of the video footages.
When police personnel intervened, a confrontation reportedly followed, escalating into violent clashes.
When contacted, senior police officials in Churachandpur refrained from making any immediate statement, saying it was "too early" to provide details, reports The Assam Tribune.
It is not clear how many, if any, were injured in the confrontation.
Manipur Govt bans air guns in Churachandpur
The Government banned air guns in Churachandpur district in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on September 13, according to an order.
The order issued by District Magistrate Dharun Kumar S said the "use, carrying and brandishing" of air guns in Churachandpur district has been banned with immediate effect and until further orders under Section 163 of the BNSS.
"VVIP is scheduled to visit Churachandpur district, and elaborate security arrangements are being made to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
It has been observed that the carrying, use or brandishing of air guns may cause alarm, confusion or pose a potential security threat during the VVIP movement," the order said on Wednesday.
