Cong seeks removal of 1.3 lakh 'photo-similar' entries

Imphal, April 10 2023: Pointing out that there are numerous cases of enlisting multiple voters against one photograph in the State's photo electoral roll, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Legal Department has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral officer (CEO) seeking removal of these 'photo-similar' entries.

A team of MPCC Legal Department led by its chairman S Shyamcharan alias Shanou submitted the memorandum at the CEO's Lamphelpat office today.

Speaking to media persons at the gate of the CEO office, S Shyamcharan said that 1,33,556 excess voters were found enlisted in the State's photo electoral roll against similar photographs.

He said that they have requested the CEO to look into the matter and remove the excess or bogus voters.

The memorandum urged the CEO to remove the excess voters under rule number 26 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and ensure that the next elections are held in a free and fair manner, Shyamcharan said. In Imphal East district, there are 495 photo-similar entries in Khundrakpam AC, 775 in Heingang AC, 576 in Khurai AC, 478 in Kshetrigao AC, 274 in Thongju AC, 607 in Keirao AC, 415 in Andro AC, 532 in Lamlai AC, 393 in Yaiskul AC and 1604 in Wangkhei AC.

The total photo-similar entries in the 10 Assembly segments of Imphal East district is 6149, he said.

In Imphal West district, there are 632 photo-similar entries in Thangmeiband AC, 716 in Uripok AC, 491 in Sagolband AC, 326 in Keishamthong AC, 176 in Singjamei AC, 476 in Sekmai AC, 399 in Lamsang AC, 233 in Konthoujam AC, 559 in Patsoi AC, 280 in Langthabal AC, 292 in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC, 309 in Wangoi AC and 664 in Mayang Imphal AC.

The total number of photo-similar entries in the 13 Assembly segments of Imphal West district is 5803 .

In Bishnupur district, there are 395 photo-similar entries in Nambol AC, 368 in Oinam AC, 375 in Bishnupur AC, 597 in Moirang A C, 478 in Thanga AC and 430 in Kumbi AC.

The six Assembly segments of Bishnupur district have 2643 photo-similar entries.

In Thoubal district, there are 507 photo-similar entries in Lilong AC, 345 in Thoubal AC, 273 in Wangkhem AC, 392 in Heirok AC, 492 in Wangjing-Tentha AC, 599 in Khangabok AC, 819 in Wabagai AC, 502 in Kakching AC, 426 in Hiyanglam AC and 598 in Sugnu AC.

The 10 Assembly segments of Thoubal (undivided) district have 5053 photo-similar entries in total.

Jiribam AC has 276 photo-similar entries.

In Chandel district, Chandel AC has 7816 photo-similar entries while Tengnoupal AC has 6616 similar entries.

The total number of photo-similar entries in Chandel (undivided) district is 14,432 .

In Ukhrul (undivided) district, there are 2676 photo-similar entries in Phungyar AC, 4894 in Ukhrul AC and 4461 in Chingai AC.

In Kangpokpi district, there are 1605 photo-similar entries in Saikul AC, 2476 in Kangpokpi AC and 4139 in Saitu AC.

Kangpokpi district has a total of 8222 photo-similar entries, Shyamcharan said.

In Senapati district, there are 15,979 photo-similar entries in Karong AC, 14,042 in Mao AC and 10,950 in Tadubi AC. The three Assembly segments of Senapati district have 40,951 photo-similar entries.

Tamenglong district has a total of 14,034 photo-similar voters.

Tamenglong AC has 4341, Tamei AC 6805 and Nungba AC 1888 .

In Churachandpur district, there are 2783 photo-similar entries in Tipaimukh AC, 2804 in Thanlon AC, 2414 in Henglep A C, 5129 in Churachandpur AC, 6601 in Saikot AC and 3428 in Singngat AC.

The total number of photo-similar entries in Churachandpur district is 24,159 .

The total number of photo-similar entries in the 60 Assembly segments of Manipur is 1,33,553, Shyamcharan said.

As the MPCC Legal Department handed over the memorandum, the CEO reportedly told them that so far 55,000/56,000 voters who were enlisted in the electoral roll fraudulently have been removed.
